OVERVIEW
The Tour will bring the highly regarded ‘Being a Friend in Grief’ workshop to 12 Vermont towns, delivering vital education and permanent Kindred Grief Care Collections.

WHY GRIEF LITERACY?
Because while loss is universal, what follows is varied and deeply personal. Yet most of us feel unsure of what to say, what to do, or how to truly help a friend, colleague, or neighbor in crisis.
Without foundational knowledge, bereavement frequently becomes isolating in addition to heartbreaking.
This interactive, comprehensive initiative changes that narrative.
By utilizing libraries as trusted, zero-barrier spaces for adult learning, we help residents build the confidence, language, and practical skills needed to offer meaningful support when it matters most.
Each tour stop is structured to generate immediate value and foster long-term community resilience:
The Interactive Workshop
Led by author, researcher, and community doula Francesca Lynn Arnoldy, participants explore the landscape of loss, learn receptive listening skills, identify what to say (and what to avoid), and discover how to prepare for meaningful grief visits.
Equipping Local Collections
To ensure the tour’s impact extends far beyond a single gathering, each participating library receives a permanent Kindred Grief Care Collection. These enduring resources will remain on bookshelves for local families to access at any time, featuring:
- Copies of Kindred Grief Care, complete with companion discussion guides and practical handouts.
- The children’s picture book, Map of Memory Lane, alongside its specialized activity book.
